PERFECT!
The St-Laurent midget program completed reached another major milestone this weekend finishing its 2012 season with a win sealing an undefeated run in only its second year back in the Heppell division. This is the 5th time in the past 8 seasons that a team from the St-Laurent association has attained regular season perfection (Mosquito 2006 & 2011 / Bantam 2005 / Midget 2010), but this is a first with a team playing in what is considered the top division in its category. Because the division was already won last weekend, and that hard playoffs games are around the corner, observers were wondering if the St-Laurent team was going to take this game seriously, especially against a tough opponent on a six-game winning streak. Those questions could have turn into doubts after the Spartans yielded a rare lead in 1st quarter with an early fieldgoal from Laval. Fortunately for the large contingent of fans that had traveled across the bridge, the resolution of the club became quickly apparent on the first score, a TD reception from WR Kyle Lunny completed after QB Adam Sinagra was able to get a pass away despite being under enormous pressure from the Laval defense. The game remained tight all the way to the end, and was put beyond reached by the defense late in the fourth thanks to a pick from S Kyle Prendergast and a safety in the dying seconds of the contest. The regular season is now finished and the attention is now firmly focus on the postseason. The Spartans will take on the Sun Youth Hornets next Saturday night at St-Laurent Park at 7.00pm. Unfortunately, the team will be weakened by the absence of LB/DT Andrew Seinet, who will miss the contest through suspension. But given the confidence of the team has, players will play with the belief they can overcome that problem in round 1.

PARFAITS!

END THE SEASON IN STYLE
It took a while for the Bantam season to get started, but by the end of the year, they seem to have it together. Head Coach Barry Castello and his staff, to its team to a very respectable 4-6 finish in the Earl De La Perralle Division of the QBFL and have earned to be the top seed in the QBFL cup playoffs. They earned their spot by defeating the Rhinos in Repentigny on a narrow score 19-16, in a long day of football.
The Spartans knew that winning would give them a psychological advantage for the postseason, as their opponent of the day was the team directly above them in the standings, and a potential opponents later in November. The team got off to a good start by taking an early 16-0 lead, thanks to scoring efforts from Alvin Avendano and Sheldon Coppin. But the smooth start to the game was derailed by the weather, and a long postponement caused by lightening appeared to have disrupted the rhythm of the team. This allowed the Rhinos to get back into the game when the contest resumed, and only a strong defensive stand preserve the early advantage by a slender margin.
No matter, the Bantam has restored a bit of pride and can go into the playoffs full of confidence. The Spartans will be off next week, as they have earned a bye into the semis and have to wait for the winner of the Western-Sherbrooke to find out the name of their opponent in two weekend at St-Laurent Park.

TIME FOR THE PLAYOFFS
This weekend games in Kirkland for both the peewee and mosquito were the last of the regular season and in both case against the respective division leader. Though both games ended in defeat, St-Laurent was able to close the year somewhat honorably, staying competitive in both contests until the fourth quarter.
Both teams, along with their younger clubmates at atom, are now in postseason mode. The Mosquito finished third and will compete for the Ballon d'Argent AAA Provincial championship, the highest level of competition for the category. It is the second year in a row that the mosquito team qualifies for such tournament. In 2011, unfortunately, the Spartans lost in the first round to the Chateauguay Raiders. This season, they will travel to St-Lazare and battle the Burgundy Stallions on Sunday at 1.00pm.
The Atom knew already last week they were to travel to Pincourt and play the Western Blue Patriots for the first round of the Alouettes Cup AAA Provincial playoffs. The game will be played on Saturday at noon.
The Peewee, also involved in the Alouettes Cup AAA Provincial playoffs have a bye this weekend.
