::: Mosquito ::: St-Lazare Stallions       22   St-Laurent Spartans     44    ::: Peewee ::: Western Patriots            30   St-Laurent Spartans       06   EMOTION-FILLED EVENING   The St-Laurent bantam team was able to give the best tribute possible to its greatest supporter, who passed away this week, by overcoming the until-then undefeated division leader. The Spartans were able to notch a memorable 26-19 victory over the Western Patriots (now 6-1) at St-Laurent Park on Saturday night. The Black-and-Orange (4-3) are over the .500 mark for the first time this season and have clinched a home game for their 1st round in the playoffs. The game was preceded by a moment of silence in memory of the departed Aldo Piccinin, ever present at Spartans’ games for the past few years. The Spartans’ players were also wearing a black armband in his honour. The mosquito did not disappoint either by safekeeping their perfect season (8-0) and have now clinched the regular season division title. The game against the St-Lazare Stallions was a little less one-sided than in previous weeks (44-22) but convincing enough to continue hoping the division is just a beginning.

::: Bantam ::: Western Patriots            19   St-Laurent Spartans       26  ::: Midget ::: Boucherville Grizzlis      52   St-Laurent Spartans       07     SOIRÉE CHARGÉE D'ÉMOTIONS  L’équipe bantam de St-Laurent à su rendre le meilleur hommage possible à un de ses plus grand fan, disparu cette semaine, en faisant tomber le leader de la division McNair qui était jusqu’à là invaincu. Les Spartans ont remporté une victoire mémorable sur le score de 26-19 face à Western (maintenant 6-1) au parc St-Laurent ce samedi soir. Les Orange-et-Noir (4-3) passent la barre des .500 et s’assurent ainsi de jouer leur 1er tour de playoffs à domicile. La rencontre fut précédée d’une minute de silence en mémoire d’Aldo Piccinin, très présent depuis quelques années aux matches de l’association et qui nous a malheureusement quitté cette semaine à l’age de 81 ans. Les joueurs portaient aussi un brassard noir en son honneur. Les moustiques n’ont pas déçu non plus en remportant conservant leur saison parfaite (8-0) et sont officiellement assurés de remporter leur division. Le match, face à St-Lazare, fut un peu moins à sens unique qu’à l’habitude (44-22) mais suffisamment convaincant pour continuer d’entretenir tous les espoirs pour le reste de la saison.

A victory this weekend and Steve Batsos’ troops has now clinched a home game for the first round of the playoff in October. A triumph on a large score (69-6) over an Ile Bizard team that was amongst their toughest opponent thus far this season. The achievement was a collective effort as no fewer than eight players put their names on the scoresheet (Ankamah, Croisetiere, Aboud, Pace, Marchand, Pelletier, Moustache, Mozanga). The other winner from the association from the weekend’s action is the Barry Castello’s bantam team. The was a bit more laborious than the score seems to indicate (41-0), as the Black-&-Orange were only up by a score at half-time. With a .500 record (3-3), the team is firmly back in the race for the top two stops in the league, which would signify a bye in the first round in the QBFL Cup playoffs. The atom, peewee and midget, which under new management, came empty handed dispite some valiant effort from all teams.

::: Bantam ::: Repentigny Rhinos          00  St-Laurent Spartans       41  ::: Midget ::: Laurentian Wildcats      65   St-Laurent Spartans     07     LES MOUSTIQUE S'ASSURE D'UN MATCH A DOMICILE  L’équipe moustique de l’association vogue en tête de la WMFL avec une saison toujours parfaite (7-0). Une nouvelle victoire ce weekend et la formation de Steve Batsos est maintenant assurée de rester à domicile pour le premier tour des playoffs en octobre. Une victoire très large (69-6) face à une équipe d’Ile Bizard qui leur avait pourtant donné un peu de mal lors du premier match de la saison. L’effort fut collectif alors que pas moins de huit joueurs ont porté leur nom à la feuille de score (Ankamah, Croisetiere, Aboud, Pace, Marchand, Pelletier, Moustache, Mozanga). L’autre formation vainqueur du weekend pour les Spartans est l’équipe bantam dirigée par Barry Castello. Une victoire plus laborieuse que le score final ne l’indique (41-0), alors qu’à la pause les orange-et-noir ne menaient que par 6-0. L’équipe, maintenant à 3-3, est de retour dans la course aux deux premières places, positions signifiant une exemption pour les quart de final de la coupe de la QBFL. Les formations atome, peewee et midget (qui sont sous une nouvelle équipe dirigeante) sont rentrées les mains vides, mais non sans livrer de bonne batailles et un bel effort.

::: Atom ::: BYE ::: Mosquito ::: BYE ::: Peewee ::: Western Pats               38   St-Laurent Spartans   00    BACK IN THE RACE FOR THE BANTAM  A decisive 46-7 victory in Joliette for the bantam program of the Spartans (2-3) and the disappointing loss at Sherbrooke from last weekend est already forgotten. The game took a while to be out of reach (19-7 at the half), but coach Barry Castello’s troops made the correct adjustments in the 2nd half and made their technical superiority pay-off. An outburst of 27 points without answer and the program is now just a win away from squaring off its record to .500. They try to attempt just that next weekend when they travel to last-place Repentigny on Saturday afternoon. The peewee and the midget teams were up against a major task as they both were facing their respective division leader. They both came out empty handed, as they ended on the wrong end of a shutout. The mosquito and atom teams were off this week..

::: Bantam ::: Joliette Pirates                 07  St-Laurent Spartans       46  ::: Midget ::: Sun Youth Hornets         42    St-Laurent Spartans     00     DE RETOUR DANS LA COURSE POUR LES BANTAM  Une victoire 46-7 à Joliette pour le programme bantam de St-Laurent (2-3), et la difficile défaites à Sherbrooke de la semaine passée est oubliée. Le match à été long à se dessiner, et tout était encore en jeu à la mi-temps (19-7). Mais les garçons menés par coach Barry Castello ont fait les ajustements necessaire pour retirer rapidement tout suspense au match en marquant 27 point sans reponse en 2e partie de rencontre. Une victoire la semaine la semaine prochaine face aux Rhinos, actuels derniers au classement, fera revenir le bilan de l’équipe à l’équilibre sur la saison. Les équipes peewee et midget avaient fort à faire face aux leaders respectifs de leur division et ne pure ramener ni victoire ni même de points marqués. Les équipes moustique et atome étaient aux repos ce weekend.

FREE TUTORING FOR OUR REGISTERED PLAYERS  St-Laurent Football Association has the pleasure to announce that, for the current season, it intends on offering a homework help service to its players in need of assistance or just extra work to improve school grades. The brain-child of one of its young coach, Mc Gill student Tim Hadjis of the mosquito staff intends to run the program weekly on Sundays at the Spartans room at Centre de Loisirs 12pm-3pm. TUTORAT GRATUIT POUR NOS JOUEURS INSCRITS  L'association de football de St-Laurent a le plaisir d'annoncer, pour la saison en cour, qu'elle travaille sur la mise en place d'un service de soutien scolaire pour ses joueurs en besoin d'assitance ou simplement à la recherche d'un peu d'aide pour améliorer ses notes à l'école. Le projet est conçu par un des jeune coach du staff moustique, Tim Hadjis étudiant à McGill, et  qui tiendra les seances hebdomadairement dans la salle des Spartans au Centre des Loisirs le dimanche de midi-3.00pm.
