COLD NIGHT, SWEET VICTORY! St-Laurent will be present on the big day at St-Leonard Stadium next week, participating at the championship day for midget and bantam categories. Because of the sterling season the Spartans midget achieved, most in the association expected them to be our focus at the event. Last week's heartbreak loss put an end to that dream. The bantam, a program that has been through its share of problems in the past couple of seasons, is peaking at the right time and is trying to have Spartans Nation get over the disappointment. They were invited to be part of the AAA QBFL Cup as the top seed in the field, and have held on to the honour by qualifying for the final that will be played next Saturday at 1.00pm. In bitter November cold, the Bantam was attempting to reach its second postseason final in 5 years. They were playing the team that surprised everyone in the quarter final, beating the Western Patriots at Pincourt. However, the game, which was started with a minute of silence in remembrance of Al Daly, a long-time former coach that passed away this week, did not appear to be heading towards an upset from Sherbrooke. St-Laurent, seemingly more comfortable with the elements, started as brightly as possible. Team scored in three quick successive possessions, and added a nice two-point conversion, giving a 22-0 cushion.  The first two TD's on power runs by RB  Jabez Willy, the last one came on a long running play by QB Dennis Karabatsos. This appeared to be the signal that the contest was over by the start of the second quarter. But credit has to be given to the visitors who battled back. Straightening their defense and connecting on offense, the Bulldogs battled back to 22-20 in the third making everyone wonder if they had yet another surprise in their back pocket. Fortunately for the Spartans, the 4th quarter went smoother and the Black-and-Orange regained the momentum and took the contest by a final 34-20. Next weekend, they will be closing their season on Saturday 10 Nov at Hebert Stadium in St-Leonard, part of the QMFL-QBFL finals. They will play the Joliette Pirates who stunned the Repentigny Rhinos in the other semis  15-12. Kickoff is at 1.00pm, and a admission will be charged to attend ($2-$5). The last time the Bantam program Bantam program reached a final, it the President's Cup Provincial final in 2008, when they lost to the Chateauguay Raiders. The association is behind Head Coach Barry Castello and his players and staff and hope this time they'll come home with a flag. In Memoriam: Coach Al Daly (1931-2012)

SOIRÉE GLACIALE, DOUCE VICTOIRE! St-Laurent sera présent pour le gros évènement la semaine prochaine à St-Leonard. L'association sera représentée pour la grande journée des finales des niveaux midget et bantam. La superlative saison régulière de l'équipe midget des Spartans autorisait beaucoup dans l'association à réver d'une nouvelle participation dans la confrontation reine du weekend. La cruelle défaite de dernière seconde le weekend dernier mis fin à ce rève. L'équipe  bantam, un programme qui a eu son lot de problème ces dernières saisons, relève la tête au meilleur moment pour remettre du baume au coeur de la nation Orange-et-Noir, et de lui faire oublier sa deception. Grâce à une troisième victoire d'affilée, ils sont maintenant invitée à prendre part à la finale de la coupe QBFL AAA qui aura lieu à 1.00pm samedi prochain. C'est dans une soirée glaciale de novembre que l'équipe tentait de se qualifier pourune seconde finale dans les 5 dernières saisons. Leurs adversaires étaient l'inattendue équipe de Sherbrooke, qui, à la surprise générale, s'est qualifiée en 1/4 de finale aux dépends de Western. Le match, qui débuta sur une minute de silence à la mémoire d'Al Daly, un ancien coach des Spartans qui nous a malheureusement quitté cette semaine, fut 100% Spartans dans ces premiers instants. Les locaux, qui semblaient bien plus comfortable avec les éléments, commencèrent de façon brillante prenant l'initative du match très rapidement et marquaient sur trois possession successives, montant rapidement le score jusqu'à 22-0.  Le RB  Jabez Willy sera l'auteur de deux TD alors que l'autre sera l'oeuvre du QB Dennis Karabatsos sur une longue course. Au départ du 2e quart, le match semblait être plié. Mais force est de reconnaitre la détermination des visiteurs, qui ne l'entendaient pas de cette oreille. Ayant mis de l'ordre dans leur defense et ajusté en phase offensive, les Bulldogs sont revenus dans le match le tableau en 3e montrait un score de 22-20 et un match en passe de basculer. Heureusement pour les Spartans, la matchine put repartir en 4e et les oranges-et-noirs reprirent le momentum et conclure le 4e quart en marquant deux fois amenant le score finale à un respectable 34-20. La semaine prochaine, l'équipe finira sa saison le 10 novembre au stade Hébert à St-Leonard, en prenant part au weekend de festivtés des finales QMFL-QBFL. Ils y affonreteront l'autre grande surprise de cette coupe QBFL, les pirates. L'équipe de Joliette prit le dessus sur son voisin de Repentigny et grand favoris de l'autre demie-finale sur un score de 12-15. Le coup d'envoi de la finale est à 1.00pm et des frais d''éntrée de $2-$5 seront chargés. La dernière fois que le programme bantam a atteint une finale, ce fut en 2008 dans la finale de la coupe du président. Chateauguay remporta la vicotire sur les Spartans. L'association est derrière le coach Barry Castello, ses joueurs et son staff pour lui souhaiter bonne vchance en esperant cette fois-ci ramener le titre.

 WMFL Challenge 

PREPARATION AND ENDING ON A HIGH Both mosquito and peewee programs were in action this sunday at St-Laurent Park as part of the WMFL challenge. For the peewee it was a tuneup game played against the Ile Bizard Vikings in preparation to their Alouettes Cup semis next weekend, and for the mosquito it was a way to end a good season on a positive note. Both teams responded well and were the respective winner of their category. The Peewee shutout the Vikings while producing 5 TD's on offence. New formations and plays were tested on either side of the ball to great effect, and the team has gained a bit of confidence ahead of a contest that will oppose them to a good St-Leonard Cougars team. The mosquito won their two matches on the afternoon against the Western Patriots and the Ile Bizard Vikings, and concludes its 2012 season on a high, and give coach Steve Batsos a very favorable overall win-loss record for his first season at the level. BONNE PREPARATION ET FIN SUR UNE BELLE NOTE Les programmes moustique et peewee étaient en action ce dimanche au parc St-Laurent pour le Challenge  WMFL. Pour les peewees, il s'agissait de prendre part à un match de mise-au-point  face à Ile-Bizard avant leur demie-finale de la coupe des Alouettes le weekedn prochain. Pour les moustiques, il s'agissait de jouer pour finir la saison sur une note positive. Les deux formations de St-Laurent ont répondu avec aplomb et sont sortis vainqueurs respectifs de leur catégorie. Le programme peewee, travailler la défense était primordiale et ils ont rempli leur contrat en blanchissant les Vikings, tout en marquant à 5 reprises en attaque. Les nouvelles formations et les nouveaux jeux des 2 côtés de la balle ont plutôt bien fonctionné, donnant un peu de confiance à l'équipe avant d'affronter  une redoutable équipe de St-Leonard. Les moustiques ont remporté leur deux parties face au Vikings et à Western et finissent 2012 sur une belle note. Cela donne aussi à l'entraineur Steve Batsos, un beau total de victoire  pour sa 1ere saison à ce niveau.
